One Day
“If I had all night, we could sit on the couch together and do other things,” Bowie said looking down with his arms wrapped around me. Don’t go. Don’t pack. Don’t leave. I will get this done. I said I would. Please don’t go.” I stared up at him, tears filled my eyes. I knew he was pleading with me and I was feeling like he would never move forward. I am not sure what I was thinking or hoping, I just didn’t want to hurt anymore. I stood in silence, my eyes meeting his. He repeated, “Don’t go. If I had all night, we could sit on the couch together and do other things.” He waited looking at me, tears began filling his eyes. Could I believe him? I wanted to. I had come all this way. I just needed him to meet me here. One tear dropped from my cheek. He immediately lifted his thumb and wiped it from my face and held onto me tightly, repeating, “Don’t go. If I had all night, we could sit on the couch together and do other things.” My mind was racing and my heart was pounding, but I responded.
“And watch tv?” I asked emotionally exhausted.
“And watch tv,” he said.
“And just be?” Another tear dropped.
“And just be,” he continued to look into my eyes.
“One day,” I said.
“One day,” he said kissing my forehead and then pulling me in for a hug.
