Sway
“Sooo, what’s Texas up to?” Jo asked, sipping her diet soda. We had decided to grab a quick drink.
“He’s driving to Dallas for his annual check up,” I glanced back at the phone.
“Anything new? C’mon, gotta have something for me,” she smiled, lighting up a smoke.
“Hmm, we’ve been talking more. He calls me almost every day after work,” sipping my iced coffee.
“Why do I feel like I’m pulling teeth Rory? This can’t be that hard. Tell me the good shit,” she laughed.
“What good shit?” I played coy. I knew what she was after.
“The shit you aren’t supposed to share with others,” her eyebrows lifted like I was being dense and should know better.
“Ahh, that shit,” I could feel myself grinning.
“Now, you’re gettin me,” she took a puff.
“Honestly, there isn’t a lot to say. I just want him… badly. I know he wants me. He says it all the time. Stuff like..” I scrolled through our messages. “This one is where I told him I had six straight A’s so far and one B.”
“Yay! You. Smarty pants! I want in those smarty pants. Both pics are awesome but the second one made my body zing and I wanted to jump through my screen and jump your bones. Like during our first walk, holding hands, stopping and kissing… soft at first.”
“Okaaayyyy, I kinda meant, did you get a dick pic yet?”
“Jo!!! No. We are moving slowly. Kinda, but no dick pics.” I scolded her slightly. Jo gets all the guys who seem to want to show her their manlihood.
“Actually, that’s sweet. Better than the one I got who relieved himself on the ipad while he recorded it for me,” she shook her head and smiled at me.
“What?”
“You are fallin’ for him,” she said.
“I am not. Not yet. Why do you keep telling me this?”
“Because you are. I can see it all over your face. The way your eyes light up. Your smile. What do you like about him?” She asked curiously.
“Honestly? So far, everything. I love how we banter back and forth and talk so easily. We could talk for hours.” I found myself drifting off thinking about him.
“Yo!, back to Jo,” she raised her voice looking at me like, hello?!
“Sorry,” I smiled looking down. “He makes me laugh all the time. I dunno. I can’t explain it. I feel something.”
“Yep, knew it. You got it bad sister,” Jo said, rocking back into her chair. Her long blonde hair swept to one side. Her eyes had that expression like she could see right through me.
“I like him,” I said shyly.
“Think we got that Rory. But I’m levelling it up to, you’re fallin’ for Texas,” she put her cigarette out.
“Yeh okay, we shall see,” I said, starting to chew nervously on my straw. What if she was right. Just then my phone buzzed.
“Is that Texas?” Jo asked.
“Yes, he sent me another song,” I read his text.
“Here is a song that made me think of you on the way to Dallas. Made it, btw.”
“What song?”
“Sway, by the Kooks.” I looked up the lyrics. I knew the song well, but wanted to see the gist. “It’s about letting two people’s connection, like falling for someone control the emotions, basically accepting the relationship, no matter what.”
“Damn, he’s into you,” I continued to smile as she got up to throw her cup out. “You wanna go listen to that song now, don’t you?” She inquired.
“I kinda do,” I said, squinting like a girl who couldn’t wait to flee the scene.
“Go on, my love life isn’t as exciting as yours is right now. I’ll text you in a bit and keep me posted, will ya?” We hugged and I quickly ran to the car.
As the song played, my phone buzzed again. “Hope you’re having a good day Rory. I’m sitting here in the waiting room for labs.”
“Glad you got there safely. I just got done having coffee with Jo,” I sat back in my car and got comfy.
“Say Hi to Jo for me,” Bowie texted.
“Will do,” I said. Something I loved about him was he often made sure to say hello to Jo and ask how she was doing.
“I meant to ask you if you had noticed I changed my profile pic in the game.”
“Uh, no, let me look,” I quickly went to one of our games. It was a photo of him with much longer hair and glasses leaning on a piano. “That’s a very sweet, professor-looking photo.”
“That’s what I was going for. The other photo you called hot and I didn’t want to have a hot photo of me on my profile.”
“Why?”
“Because you said it was hot and I don’t really want that vibe out there. I found you. If you dump me, I’ll get back up on the divorce horse and put the other back haha.”
“😂fair enough,” I thought it was super thoughtful of him and he made me laugh. I remembered I had made a video for him with a pretty, new lacy dress I had on with Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me by The Cure. “I have something for you,” I texted. I pushed send. It was a bit sexy, so I was slightly nervous, biting my straw harder.
“Wow! That looks amazing on you.”
“Thank you,” I said.
“Game face impossible to hold on that one. Seriously had to bite my lip to stop the massive smile from my face. You made me laugh, smile and horny all in one. Pretty talented you are. And great music choice. Used to sing that one in my band all the time.”
“Good, I like that I made all that happen,” I was feeling so good. He made every part of me light up and I could feel it. And that led me to making a quick video while sitting in the car. “I have another thing for ya,” I said.
“Ohh, sending now?”
“Here ya go,” I waited nervously, then added a disclaimer. “I look rough today. Disheveled. Sorry. Take it or leave it,” I offered up.
“Baby, I’ll take it and will be turned on as hell, if it loads,” he shot back. Ohh, I really liked him texting baby. I felt it instantly.
“You look fucking gorgeous!! And I absolutely needed to see that cleavage haha.” Oh shit, I went to the video and pushed play. Crap. My tank was definitely low. Oops. He continued, “Btw, I loved hearing you say my name.”
“I like that you like when I say your name,” I texted.
“I like it anyway you say it,” he said.
“You make me smile Bowie and laugh.”
“That’s what I’m here for. You have no idea what you did to me in this waiting room when my game face broke. I couldn’t hold it together at all, 😬” I was thinking about what he looked like breaking the way he did in the doc office. What was he wearing? There was so much I wanted to see and know.
“What do you have planned after Dallas?” I asked.
“Heading up to see my parents in Nebraska and I’m going to go see my old band play.”
“That sounds fun. It must be nice seeing them play again.”
“I imagine I will see some people I know in the crowd. The drummer also played in the band right before I left. He is hilarious.”
“What kind of music?”
“80’s, 90’s stuff. Wish you could be there with me,” he texted.
“One day,” I wrote.
“One day,” he wrote back.
There was a moment of quiet as I sat back drinking my coffee thinking about Bowie.
“I really like that video Rory 😍😍I can’t stop watching it,” he said.
“Dude, I don’t even look that great in it,” I felt totally self conscious as it was a rough one.
“Did you just Dude me?” he asked.
“I did,” my California came out a bit.
“I really like what you call your rough self, dude. It’s a different look”
“Thank you for saying that” I could feel myself blushing.
“I need my hands on you,” he said.
“You do,” I wrote back.
“I do.”
“I want you,” he added.
“I want you more.”
